Stainless Steel Slam Organ
Plunking out pitches with flip-flops: A design piece by Stefan Schilling
The Slam Organ lets up to 2 children play with five tuned organ pipes made of stainless steel piping. Like with an organ, there is one pipe for each pitch. In contrast to a "real" organ, however, the column of air that creates the resonance is evoked by swatting at the end of the pipe with flip-flops. This "plunking" can be tuned precisely either by measuring out the pipe to just the right length or by using the trial-and-error method.
