House of Mirrors

Utterly distorted perception

Experience the phenomenon of mirroring in the House of Mirrors acoustically and optically:

  • Many mirrored surfaces create an unending set of reflections of the observer. The acoustic equivalent of this is an extreme "cathedral" reverberation.
  • Two mirrors triple the picture; an echo is heard.
  • In two further chambers, funhouse mirrors and a special-effects apparatus respectively combine the pictures "thick" and "thin" with low and high sounds.

Unique spatial acoustics have "seduced" people all around the world into singing because those unique spaces allow them to hear themselves in a very special way from the outside. One theory about how humankind created music begins with the influence of cave acoustics. The mirrored image resulting from looking into a clear pool held an equal amount of fascination as well.
